How to Look After Your Cartridge Filters

PRLog (Press Release) – Nov 21, 2009 – Cartridge filters are a type of pool filter that collects dirt and debris from dirty water via a series of removable cartridges. Cartridge filters are a more economical pool filter and require very little maintenance.  Cartridge filters also use lower pressure to push water into them which means that they won’t clog up as quickly and you won’t have to touch the filters as often.

The removable cartridges are easily removable and easy to clean. There is some manual maintenance but it is very simple. The best way to clean the cartridges in your cartridge filters is to:

1.   Gently rinse off loose dirt – do not use too much pressure or a spray nozzle as you may end up pushing the dirt into the cartridge. At this stage you just want to remove the loose dirt first.

2.   Soak your cartridge in a specific cartridge cleaner- use a plastic bucket and soak your cartridge in the special cleaner overnight. Normal acid based cleaning solutions won’t work as well because although they can break down dirt they cannot break down body oils and sunscreen lotions that can get into the cartridge and help dirt stick to it. Cartridge cleaning solutions are designed to break down the compounds in these oils and lotions therefore preventing further dirt sticking to your cartridge.

3.   Rinse your cartridge again – thoroughly rinse all the cartridge solution and chemicals and any remaining debris from the cartridge before putting it back into the cartridge filter. Be careful again as to not use too much pressure as small particles of dirt may still be on the surface and you could push this into the cartridge.
